How important is Facebook?

Yesterday I was doing a little grocery shopping like normal people do on a Saturday morning. As I was walking down the frozen section I hear some one calling my name. I look up from the assortment of "healthy" meals to see my old high school study buddy, Rachael, waving her arms in psychotic motions. We start talking to each other about family and other small talk. Somehow we ended up talking about a picture on Facebook. Now I have a Facebook but I don't check it 24/7 like she does. For about ten minutes she went on a rant about me and how I'm never on Facebook. She argued its the only way to stay in contact with people. I looked at her and told her, "I have a cell phone Rachael, if you want to talk to me call or txt me. That's the fastest way to get in contact with me." Is it just me or are people relying on Facebook way to much? I am way to be busy to sit on the computer every day just to make small talk! If you want to catch up on life call me or better yet lets meet and we can really sit down and have a face to face conversation. Why are people so caught up in Facebook? I don't get it!!

True Love

Who am I?

I'm not a perfect girl my hair doesn't always stay in place & I spill things a lot. I'm pretty clumsy & sometimes I have a broken heart. My friends & I sometimes fight &maybe some days nothing goes right, but when I think about it & take a step back I remember how amazing life truly is & that maybe, just maybe, I like being unperfect.I love this crazy tragic sometimes almost magic awful beautiful life!

Forgiveness

One of the thorniest and most difficult things we humans are ever called upon to do is to respond to evil with kindness, and to forgive the unforgivable. We love to read stories about people who have responded to hatred with love, but when that very thing is demanded of us personally, our default seems to be anger, angst (dread or anguish), depression, righteousness, hatred, etc. Yet study after study shows that one of the keys to longevity and good health is to develop a habit of gratitude and let go of past hurts.

How Disney Messed Up Your Romance

“There are over 100 million single adults over the age of 25 in our country, and for most of them, the thought of being single and dating is analogous to having a red hot poker jammed into their eye.” – Dating coach, Jo Amoia

This blog is very enlightening on how the "Disney Myth" has stumped today's dating society. It turns out that Disney movies aren’t quite as perfect as you had once imagined, because, according to the theory, when a woman goes out with a guy and he doesn’t treat her like or lives up to how Prince Charming treated Cinderella, she becomes disillusioned.  She becomes bitter about the whole dating process, because it’s not at all like she’d expected.

Shoeaholic

The first step is admitting you have a problem..... I, Kalie Elise Thomas, am a Shoeaholic! If you don't believe me here is a small look into my addiction....

My problem has gotten so bad I've had to turn my spare bedroom into an extra closet just to fit all my shoes. :)

Do the right thing!

"It is impossible to calculate the moral mischief, if I may so express it, that mental lying has produced in society.  When a man has so far corrupted and prostituted the chastity of his mind as to subscribe his professional belief to things he does not believe he has prepared himself for the commission of every other crime."  ~Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason
Sometimes it seems easier to “stretch the truth” a little rather than deal with the repercussions of missing a deadline. There are times I'm awoken by my screeching alarm indicating that I need to to get moving and start getting ready for work. As I hit the snooze button a third time I start contemplating how to get out of going to work. My mind starts coming up with different excuses like; "I feel achy, I over slept, or I have the flu," comes to mind. Then there are the times in school where you get lazy and forget to due an assignment or miss a quiz and "stretch the truth" but fudging the facts on what really happened. Like "My computer was glitchy, or my car broke down." Anything to get out of doing something or to cover our tracks. But is it worth it in the long run? Out in the real world you decide not to show up or start slacking off, you won't get paid or even worse get fired. Ethics is a system of moral principles.  Which means that you try to do what is correct. Ethical communication encompasses being honest in all communications, keeping confidential information confidential, and not discussing the personal or business situations of others in public or in front of a third party. The bottom line is do the right thing and as much as it might suck don't take short cuts. The only person it hurt is yourself!

My bucket list....

Here is My pineterst bucket list.... this is what I'm hoping for in my life :)

Jersey Shore: sending a bad message to today’s youth?

I don't know why I'm so obsessed with Jersey Shore! These reality stars are all around the same age as me, 21. The age when most people have no idea what they want to do for a living. What is America indirectly telling America’s newest MTV generation? That if you make a complete fool of yourself and do outrageous things to get attention, you can make it big too- no hard work required. Mass communication technically refers to the process of transferring or transmitting a message to a large group of people — typically, this requires the use of some form of media such as newspapers, television, or the Internet. Another definition of the term, and perhaps the most common one, refers to an academic study of how messages are relayed to large groups of people instantaneously. Shows like Jersey Shore prove that America loves consuming crappy entertainment. Every where you go you can't get way from seeing something about or related to the show. Music, magazines, re-runs, and event clothing are everywhere! Whether we admit it or not, we love junk. We consume junk in droves whether it is in the form of reality television or food. We will swipe our credit cards and accumulate debt in order to pay for junk, we will google for junky quick-read/low-information articles. And the scariest part is that young people are being told that if you can create junk, you can make it big.

Be Yourself

You're the only one that that holds you back, don't be afraid to reach for the the unreachable, seek the un-seekable, bear the unbearable. Follow your heart and don't lead anyone keep you down! Keep following your dreams!!

All Time Low

All Time Low is an American pop punk band from Baltimore, Maryland, formed in 2003. The band consists of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Alexander Gaskarth, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Jack Barakat, bassist and backing vocalist Zachary Merrick and drummer Rian Dawson.  This is my favorite band in the whole universe! The band's name is taken from lyrics in the song "Head on Collision" by New Found Glory, another band I love! If you're looking for a finn band to have a blast with then these guys are what cha looking for! Enjoy!!

Communication Anxiety

Communication anxiety is also known as public speech anxiety. Contrary to other types of anxieties, it is just a NORMAL phenomenon among ordinary people. In fact, a significant number of people tend to avoid situations of public speaking, and an even greater number of people can not perform as effectively as they otherwise can due to anxiety and stress. A few individuals even rank public speaking ahead of their worst fears, such as snakes, spiders, and even death. I used to feel this way! But once I was hired by to be a tour guide, I knew I would have to come to terms with this phobia. I realized the best way to over come my issue is to open up with my audience, interact with them, relate to them. Anything to take the pressure off your self. They way I think is if I talk to this person one on one then it will make it feel like the whole presentation is less formal and more relaxed.

Live life with no regrets!

Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So love the people who treat you right, forget about the one’s who don’t. Believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, than let it. Nobody said it’d be easy, they just promised it’d be worth it.

A True Friend

A friend should be radical
They should love you when you’re unlovable
Hug you when you’re unhuggable
And bear you when you’re unbearable

A friend should be fanatical
They should cheer when the whole world boos
Dance when you get good news
And cry when you cry too

But most of all, a friend should be mathematical
They should multiply you joy
Divide you sorrow
Subtract the past
And add to tomorrow
Calculate the need deep in your heart
And always be bigger than the sum of all your parts
